Attachment Communication Training, developed by our co-founders Terry Levy and the late Michael Orlans, is featured prominently in the book Clearing the Haze: Helping Families Face Teen Addiction.
A review in the May edition of the Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry calls the book by Dr. Christian Thurstone of the University of Colorado and journalist Christine Tatum “a commendable effort to clear the haze from the misconceptions related to adolescent substance use and SUDs, parenting approaches and SUD treatment.”
The review also states: “…Negative attachment styles and family conflict are risk factors for adolescents with SUDs, and a strong parent-child bond is a protective factor. Thus, the core communication skills from Attachment Communication Training are a reasonable place to start in addressing maladaptive communication in this population.”
